Hutchinson, London, 1973. 302pp, index, sources, illustrations. In this account of the Charge of the Light Brigade during the Crimean War, the author rejects the oft repeated notion that its cause was the infamous Lucan-Cardigan quarrel. He maintains, and provides evidence, that the cause was more complex. This is a fascinating and mature account in which the ordinary soldiers are regarded as an intelligent, able and courageous men led by officers who were far from unpopular fools.
