The author, a direct descendant, describes the amazing life of this man who was born shortly after the breaking up of the clans. As a young man he went to America after killing his challenger in a duel. There he got mixed up in the American War of Independence, being captured and escaping several times. Back in London he played a leading part in the repeal of the 'Unclothing Act' that forbade the wearing of Highland Dress.
